Scottish Borders based Artist
Born in 1946. Edinburgh born painter Richard has lived in Peebles in the Scottish Borders since 2004 where he has a cosy detached studio beside the woods. He is the Treasurer of the PEEBLES ART GROUP and organizes their fortnightly Drawing and Painting Workshops. Richard also organizes the PEEBLES ANNUAL ART EXHIBITION in May/June each year.
Largely self-taught his interest in drawing and painting began in his early teens when he studied Art at Boroughmuir Senior Secondary School intending to attend Art College. However, he took "cold feet" and instead joined the Life Assurance world in 1964. Nevertheless, he continued drawing and painting throughout his working life.
WATERCOLOURS in the seventies - PASTEL paintings of Still Life, Landscapes and human and animal Portraits (mainly horses and dogs) throughout the eighties and nineties. In 1995 he started painting in OILS, mainly landscapes and still life. Since 2004 he has been experimenting with ACRYLICS and MIXED MEDIA (particularly acrylics and inks with pastels).
However, he still enjoys painting OILS on canvas (also BOXED canvasses and likes to prepare and prime his own fabric covered boards). His favourite size is 20ins x 16ins (50cm x 40cm) but he paints all sizes from 2.5 ins x 3.5ins to 36ins x 24ins (and larger if requested)
Richard is most interested in colour and texture. He accepts COMMISSIONS - Size and Price by arrangement.
